Design & Height Requirements
The city of Novi is somewhat easy going when it comes to fences. You are allowed to install just about any common type of fence on the market such as vinyl, wood, chain link, aluminum, and composite fences. This also includes most styles such as privacy fences, picket fences, and ornamental fencing.
The maximum height allowed for fences in Novi is 6 feet tall and must be installed using a inform material. This means that you cannot have many different types of fences on the same property (ie: wood privacy fence on one property line, chain link fencing on another property line, and vinyl fencing and another.)
Location Requirements
Fences installed on residential properties in Novi may be installed around the entire backyard and along the sides of the home, but not extending beyond the front corners of the home. The only exception to this is if the frontage setback of your property extends beyond the front corners of the house (sometimes with large lots or corner lots).
All fences must be installed within your property and homeowners are required to verify the location of their property lines as the city of Novi does not intervene with property line disputes. Likewise, when hiring Paramount Fence for your project, we do not provide property survey services and expect that your designation of the property lines is accurate.
