Fence Ordinances in Farmington Hills Michigan
Below is a brief overview of the fence ordinances for Farmington Hills. This is not a complete or definite list and should never be used in support of a dispute. Click here to review the complete document of codes and ordinances regarding fences in Farmington Hills.
Design & Height Requirements
In Farmington Hills you can install any common fence type and design. This includes vinyl, wood, chain link, aluminum and composite fencing, as well as, privacy fences, picket fences, and ornamental fencing. The main thing you are not allowed to include with your fence is barbed wire, razor ribbon or any electrical charges.
The maximum height allowed for fences is 6-ft tall. This includes all fence types being installed in a back yard or along the sides of a house.
Any fence being installed in a front yard cannot exceed 3-ft in height and must be an ornamental fence. No fencing can extend beyond the front corners of the house.
The finished side of fences installed in Farmington Hills can face either the homeowners property, or their neighbor’s property. This means that the posts and rails can be positioned on either side of the fence and the finished/build side of the fence may face either property.
Fences can be installed in your backyard and along the sides of your house but not beyond the front corners of your house. The exception to this is an ornamental or decorative fence that can be installed in your front yard if it does not exceed 3-ft in height.
If you live on a corner lot and and would like your fence installed along the side/front yard you will need to make sure that your fence is at least 1-ft away from any public sidewalk and meets all pedestrian visibility requirements where your driveway is located. This means that there is an area where the fence cannot be placed which is made up of a triangle created by measuring 10-ft in either direction of where your driveway and sidewalk intersect.
Fence Repairs in Farmington Hills MI
